“I really think that one day my son will find me. It may be an insane thought, but I live for it.”

 - Seung-hee Kim (pseudonym), Birth Mother

At the age of 14, Gyu-Hyeon dreamed of becoming a fashion photographer after seeing the film Blow Up by Michelangelo Antonioni.  A year later he got his first camera, with the hope that photography would bring him to beauty and truth.

He received his B.A. in photography from Shin-gu University in Seoul and his Master’s degree from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Art Decoratifs in Paris.  After finishing ICART-PHOTO School in 1999, he became a member of the photo agency, EDITING in Paris.

During the Kosovo war, he worked as a photo journalist. It was then that he decided to become a documentary photographer.  He has worked in more than 10 countries, winning international recognition for covering war, conflict, and ordinary life around the world.

He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Korea, France and Japan.  His photography awards include the Ensad Le prix Leica Award, Le Prix Bayeux Award and the Special Kodak Jeune Talent Award.
